Opogo Compliance Guide

Enhanced DBS

Why do I need to supply an Enhanced DBS?

Government guidelines indicate any person who chooses to work in the education sector will require an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS as well as a Barred list check - This prevents unsuitable candidates from working with children in any capacity.

What documents can I submit?

All candidates are required to provide an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate. And, if the DBS was not completed via Opogo, the DBS must be registered on the update service.

If your Enhanced DBS was not completed via Opogo, and is not registered on the update service, please contact us ASAP so we can advise the best options for you.
Please note: If your Enhanced Child Workforce DBS is not registered on the update service, but was issued to you within the last 30 days, you can register your DBS on the update service via DBS CRSC (crbonline.gov.uk).

Volunteer and Student DBS certificates will be rejected as this only applies to unpaid work.

Why were my documents rejected?

• Your DBS will be rejected if you submit a Basic DBS or Standard DBS, as these do not hold the relevant information to ensure you are allowed to work with children.
• If your DBS was obtained via a third-party (i.e. not completed via Opogo) your DBS certificate must be registered on the Update Service. If your DBS is not on the Update Service you will need to apply for a new DBS certificate.
• Volunteer and Student DBS certificates will be rejected as this only applies to unpaid work.
• You need to upload a picture of the Front and Back of your DBS. If only one image is submitted your DBS will be rejected and you will be asked to resubmit.
